Welcome to Northwestern Elementary School

Located in the western portion of Wicomico County, MD is Northwestern Elementary School.  The school is named for its geographic location and is considered one of the few community schools in the Wicomico County Public School System.

Construction of the original single story building of Northwestern Elementary School was completed in 1966, consisting of just classrooms and the main office.  In 1967, the media center, additional classrooms, the multi-purpose room, stage, and additional offices were added.  Additional renovations were completed in 1992 with the addition of the new C-wing that currently houses grades 1 and 2.  The school now has a square footage of 26,800 feet, not including the 4 portable buildings that are on property.

Northwestern Elementary School has had 10 principals in its 48 year history:  Mr. Ronald Ayers, Mr. Robert Greer, Mrs. Barbara Twilley, Ms. Jane Burke, Mrs. Doretha Jones, Mrs. Alice Gibson, Ms. Cathy White, Ms. Wauchilue Jackson-Snyder, Dr. Darlene Nobles, and Mr. Kirby Bryson.

Northwestern Elementary School serves students in the Mardela Springs, San Domingo, and Sharptown neighborhoods.  Currently the school services students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 with an enrollment of 325 students.

Northwestern Elementary School is truly a community school with a long history of caring staff, involved parents, and successful students.  Please take an opportunity to visit our school and discover our Northwestern Braves Pride!
