Welcome to the 2008-2009 School Year!

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Northwestern Elementary School. Our school is an exciting place filled with student smiles and learning opportunities. It is a school where parents are considered to be a valuable and essential resource in the education of children. By combining our efforts and knowledge we can make this school year a productive and successful one.
The Northwestern staff is committed to providing each child the opportunity to learn in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. It is our hope that each child will be challenged to explore, discover, and learn. As you may know, there is a direct link between parent involvement and high achievement. Together we can ensure that every child experiences a happy and successful school year.

This big, blue, wild and groovy creature called YoJo is essentially a seven-foot living cartoon character and was created to perform motivational and educational comedy shows for large groups of children such as elementary schools, festivals, and malls. Please join us as YoJo shares his message..."Reading is important. Reading can be lots of fun, and The More You Read, The Smarter You Get."

Sep 26	Midterm Progress Reports Sent Home Please contact you child's teacher if you have any questions concerning their midterm progress report.

Oct 6 6:30 PM	PTA Meeting Please join us for our 2nd PTA meeting of the 2008-2009 school year. Following a brief business meeting, classroom visitations will occur.

Oct 8 8:30 AM-12:00 PM	ILT Meeting Parents and community leaders are welcome to attend our Instructional Leadership Team Meeting. We will be discussing our School Improvement Plan and goals for the 2008-2009 school year.

Oct 17	MSTA Convention-School Closed School will be closed so that teachers can attend the annual Maryland State Teacher's Association Conference in Ocean City. School offices will be open from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM.

Oct 20	Professional Day-School Closed School will be closed in order for teachers to participate in Professional Development activities.

Oct 22 6:00-7:30 PM	Title I Family Night Please join our Title I staff for this informative and fun evening. Reading and Math activities will be shared along with light refreshments.
